Welcome to the Homes Exteriors  Section of Gardenseeker.com

Increasingly, the exterior of the home is playing an important part in the overall design feel of the garden and visa versa.

In time such as the present, when the housing market faces uncertain times, it may be a good time to have a few thoughts about what can be done to improve your home exterior - both for your own benefit (You might need to stay long-term) and also for the benefit of any would-be purchaser.

All parts of the house exterior play an important part, and with modern day materials available, a pleasing contrast or a complementary match is an option to be thought about.

Items for consideration will include .....

  • Fascias and Cladding. These can be in UPVc or timber. But with the increase of timber prices, more interesting profiles and colours are being offered in plastic based materials - often indistinguishable from real wood. With the added benefits of longevity and ease of maintenance.

  • Driveways. Often the first part of your home that any visitor notices. Driveways can get neglected over time, as you get used to it's appearance. Maybe time for a fresh look!

  • Windows and Conservatories are placed together for there is much overlap in the construction and manufacture expertise. Many Windows installer also install conservatories. The days of the cowboy double glazier are more or less over, as the whole industry cleans up it's act. However, there is still the potential for pressure selling. Take your time, shop around, and see previous workmanship in your area.

  • Roofing Contractors. Make sure that you get competitive quotes, and please be certain of your contractor and their work. Insist on seeing some of their work, or speaking to past clients.  We know of one small job - which took 30mins DIY work, that was quoted at £650, £1800, and a suggestion that the whole section of roof needed to be replaced - at £9500!

  • Loft Conversions are a good way to add extra living space. Get it done professionally or at least seek professional guidance.
